General Dentistry Procedures Routinely Performed In-Office
Extractions are unfortunate but sometimes necessary. When you have no other choice we can help alleviate your discomfort and poor health by removing an offending tooth. But don’t worry about the gap for now. We have the ability to replace that missing tooth with a dental implant crown, a bridge or removable partial denture.
Dental implants are the single-most effective and successful dental replacement for a missing tooth. An implant is a titanium anchor that allows Dr. Hogan to replace a missing tooth with a crown that looks like a natural tooth. Contrary to some people’s perception, the procedure is minimally invasive, relatively painless and simple to accomplish.
***See below for more information about dental implants.***
Dental bridges replace missing teeth while crowning the neighboring teeth. They are fixed and non-removable. Dr. Hogan is well trained and experienced in dental bridges. He believes the dental bridge is a good restoration for replacement of a missing tooth when the adjacent teeth are in need of crowns. But when the adjacent teeth have not and need not be restored, a dental implant is clearly the ideal choice.
Dentures and Partial Dentures
Dentures and partial dentures are used to replace missing teeth or damaged teeth that cannot be repaired. These restorations can be placed with or without dental implants for a range of rigid retention and confidence.
Precision-attachment upper partial denture can be made in which the retentive e clasps are hidden behind the teeth! There are no metal clasps to view in the smile zone. Note that the upper teeth do not display metal clasps in the smile zone.
Dental fillings are used to repair damage to the structure of a tooth as a result of decay, wear or trauma. Dr. Hogan can restore a tooth with one of several filling materials such as porcelain, gold, amalgam, or composite resin (white material.) Each filling material has advantages and disadvantages. Dr. Hogan will help you to determine which material is appropriate for you.
Bonding is the term used to describe the process of using composite resins to restore a crack or chip in the surface of a tooth. Chipped or cracked teeth are typically repaired through bonding. An enamel-like composite material is applied to the surface of a tooth, sculpted into shape, contoured and polished, making the crack or chip invisible.
Root canal therapy
Root canal therapy removes infected pulp tissue within the root of the tooth. The hollowed-out tooth is filled with an antibacterial filling, and the tooth is “capped” with a crown for protection. Dr. Hogan is confident in performing routine endodontics.
Dental crowns repair extensively decayed or damaged teeth. Crowns (or “caps”) can be made of gold, porcelain or a combination of both. Dr. Hogan prefers porcelain crowns in most cases but believes in the merit and longevity of gold crowns for some patients and where the tooth is not visible. Dr. Hogan restores several crowns per day lending extensive experience in this field.
Cosmetic Dentistry is an odd term as far as we are concerned. We don’t charge extra to do something that is “cosmetic” or looks good. Everything we do is made to look good! That is obvious. So, if you’re looking for “cosmetic dentistry” then look no further. A beautiful smile may mean just one crown, one whitening treatment or a complete makeover.
